Nunavut Trip
August 1 to 16, 2008
This particular trip brought me north of 60, way above the tree line to the Nunavut territory. Jericho Mine
site is located in Canada's newest territory, approximately 400 km northeast
of Yellowknife, NT.
The mine site (owned by Tahera Diamond Corporation) was our home base for a large
LIDAR survey job covering a 345+ km long corridor up to Coronation Bay in the Arctic Ocean. No roads, no
Alexander Keiths and no Tim Hortons but lots of adventures and memories.
Nunavut is probably one of the least traveled places by most Canadians, maybe because it is so remote,
with no roads connecting it to the rest of Canada. Due to the lack of the roads in this area, our means
of transportation was mainly by helicopter. And flying everywhere certainly gives you a better place to
view the interesting topography created by various different ice ages over time.
Spending several weeks there provided amble time to explore and take lots of photos.
